A 29-year-old Moncton man was killed and a four-year-old girl was seriously injured in a motor vehicle collision in Irishtown on Tuesday night.

Southeast District RCMP responded to the crash involving a pickup truck and a car on Route 115 at about 5:25 p.m., Cpl. Chantal Ouellette said in a statement.

The driver of the car died as a result of his injuries and the girl, who was a passenger, was taken to Moncton City Hospital and later transported to the IWK Hospital in Halifax, said Ouellette.

The driver of the pickup truck sustained non-life threatening injuries, she said.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, with the assistance of an RCMP collision reconstructionist.

Irishtown is about 12 kilometres north of Moncton.
