A 39-year-old man from Caraquet, N.B., has been charged with sexually abusing a child following an investigation by the New Brunswick Internet Child Exploitation Unit.

On Tuesday investigators with the ICE Unit and Caraquet RCMP searched a home in Caraquet.

Police say they rescued a child in the home who police say is known to the man. They allege the man was sexually abusing the child.

Police say computers and data storage equipment were also seized that contained images of child sexual abuse.

The man cannot be identified under a court publication ban to protect the identity of the victim.

He has been charged with sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, sexual assault and making available child pornography.

He is being held in custody and will appear in Caraquet court Aug. 28 for a bail hearing. Police say further charges are possible.
