Jérémie Brideau given 3 year sentence for manslaughter
Charged after assault death of Elden Basque in Leech, on Acadian Peninsula
20-year-old Jérémie Brideau of Leech has been given a three year jail sentence for his role in the death of Elden Basque.
Brideau had already pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of 48-year-old Basque, also from that community.
Police were called to a home in Leech, on the Acadian Peninsula, on June 30.
They found Basque unconscious after being assaulted, and he died later in hospital.
Brideau was arrested shortly after, and has been in custody since then.
The three year sentence includes the time he has already served.
In addition to the jail sentence, Brideau also receives two years of probation with conditions after his release, must submit a DNA sample, and cannot possess a firearm for 10 years.
