Woodstock police say the ongoing power outage caused by post-tropical storm Arthur may have played a role in a local man's death.

Acting Sgt. Carter Stone confirms a man in his late 70s died at his apartment on Main Street on Tuesday morning.

The man was very ill, said Stone. He was on oxygen and had several health issues, including heart problems.

But Stone said the outage may have sped up the man's death by a day or so.

He said somebody was with the man at the time.

NB Power is continuing to reconnect electricity to tens of thousands of customers, particularly in southern New Brunswick, five days after post-tropical storm Arthur slammed into the province.

Power is expected to be restored in Woodstock by 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

Arthur delivered high winds and heavy rain across to the province over the weekend, knocking out power to 140,000 NB Power customers at the peak.
