The Saint John Mill Rats will sign Grand Bay-Westfield's Mike Anderson to a professional contract on Wednesday night.
The contract signing will allow Anderson to suit up in a Mill Rats uniform when the Premier Basketball League tips off for its first regular season game on Jan. 2.
Anderson, a six-foot-three guard, played his university basketball with the University of New Brunswick's Varsity Reds and he tried out for a spot with the Mill Rats.
A strong pre-season allowed Anderson to crack the team's roster, according to Jaren Jackson, the team's head coach.
"Mike has worked extremely hard during training camp and he took advantage of the opportunity to play and produce when his name was called," Jackson said in a statement.
"I am happy for him that he truly earned a roster spot."
Anderson and the Mill Rats will sign the contract during halftime of the Harbour View High School boys varsity game against St. Stephen High School on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
When Anderson played for UNB, he averaged 13.5 and 16.5 points per game in his final two years.
