Snowmobile accidents took the lives of two people over the weekend in northeastern New Brunswick.

Emergency officials say a 74-year-old man was hit by an RV Saturday night while crossing the Tracadie bypass.

Norbert Benoit was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Also on Saturday night, a 29-year-old woman drowned when she accidentally rode a snowmobile into open water in Bathurst Harbour, near the marina.

A woman who was travelling with her on another snowmobile was not injured.

An emergency worker said a friend who lived nearby tried to rescue the woman in the water and was injured in the process.

A search was carried out Saturday evening and early Sunday morning, but was called off due to high tides and strong currents.
