A Moncton orthodontist is offering a $1,000 reward for any tips leading to the return of his stolen rose bushes.

John McManaman suspects the heist from his office property on Mapleton Road occurred over the long weekend.

"I just got frustrated and decided that I would post a reward on my Facebook page to see if anyone had noticed anyone who had planted some new plants this weekend because I figured that they would have to plant these plants soon after stealing them and social media can be quite powerful," he said.

McManaman said it's not the first time green-thumbed thieves have struck his property. His plants are stolen a few times a year, he said.

And while the three rose bushes are only worth a few hundred dollars, including labour costs, he said he's offering the reward to send a message. He wants the thefts to stop.

"For me it's not about the cost of the replacement of the rose bushes," said McManaman.

"Even if we don't find them, I'm going to guess that they are going to hear about this. I'm hoping that someone is going to catch someone digging up some rose bushes."

McManaman said he hasn't reported the latest theft to police yet, but if any tips come in, he said he will.
