A woman near Moncton says there's a strange animal frightening people in her community. Jennifer McGraw lives in lower Coverdale, where she says a mysterious animal was spotted.

McGraw says she first saw the animal on Hallowe'en morning.

"My dog barked in the back yard and I went out to look and my dog was cowering against the back door with every fur on its back raised," she says."I looked over and there was this enormous animal crashing through the leaves of my back yard."

McGraw says the animal is about one-metre high, black, with bristles and a curly tail.

"It looks like a wild boar," she says. "It looks like a wild pig."

McGraw says she contacted the Department of Natural Resources.

A spokesperson for the department says it has sent people out several times but they haven't spotted the animal but McGraw says it's still around.

"It ran in front of my car right in front of me and my neighbours have also seen it," she says.

McGraw says some people say it may have escaped from a pig farm or it may be an exotic pet that's escaped.

Whatever it is, she says people are frightened and she is not letting her children go out to play until it leaves.
