Montreal police arrested a 50-year-old man Wednesday morning after a woman was stabbed to death in the Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles borough.

Police said they received a 911 call at about 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Const. Jean-Pierre Brabant of the Montreal police said officers believe it was a case of conjugal violence.

The 33-year-old victim suffered serious stab wounds to her upper body.

“She was transported to a hospital nearby in critical condition and at about 10 a.m., she was confirmed dead,” Brabant said.

The man did not resist arrest and he will be meeting with investigators today, according to Brabant.

Police said an 18-month-old girl who was in the home was not injured.
