Woman dies after a fire in her Longueuil home

A 50-year-old woman has died following a fire in her home in Longueuil on Montreal's South Shore.

Firefighters found the 50-year-old woman in the basement unconscious

Officials say the fire was contained to the basement and quickly extinguished. (Radio-Canada)

A 50-year-old woman has died following a fire in her home in Longueuil on Montreal's South Shore.

Firefighters arrived at the home on Ovila-Hamel Street  just after 3 p.m. Thursday, and found the victim unconscious in the basement.

She was taken to hospital where she died shortly after.

Investigators, who are trying to determine the cause of the fire, say the flames were contained to the basement and were quickly extinguished.
