Montreal's city council has elected a new interim mayor.

Laurent Blanchard was sworn in Tuesday morning after winning a tight vote to take over the top spot at city hall.

Blanchard replaces Michael Applebaum, the city's former interim mayor who abruptly resigned last week after his arrest on corruption and fraud charges.
