Water has been fully restored to all residents in Montreal's Plateau—Mont-Royal borough.
Water was accidentally shut off to a large sector of the borough Wednesday evening shortly after 7 p.m.
''It was just a little human error.'- Chantal Rouleau, executive committee member responsible for water.
"It was just a little human error. Workers closed one valve too many," said Chantal Rouleau, executive committee member responsible for water and water infrastructure.
The City of Montreal said the problem was caused by workers doing construction on Rachel St. between St-Denis Street and St-Laurent Boulevard.
Officials first found out about the problem via social media as Montrealers took to Twitter to try to get information.
-@DenisCoderre There's a large area of the Plateau without water service and no info from official sources. What's going on?— Rodrigo Palau (@palau93) June 25, 2014
Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre, who is himself very active on Twitter, responded quickly.
"A valve that was not supposed to be turned off was by mistake," he tweeted.
Water service was restored shortly after 8:30 p.m.
