Voice of Caillou dies in crash
A teenage actor who was the voice of the children's character Caillou has been killed in a crash on Montreal's south shore.
The Sûreté du Québec said that 17-year-old Jacklyn Linetsky and another teenage actor, Vadim Schneider, also 17, died when the minivan in which they were riding hit a tractor trailer Monday.
He and Linetsky were on their way to a television production at the time of the accident.
Linetsky provided the English voice of Caillou, the bald-headed little boy in the popular children's animated show, for two years until January 2002.
Police said the minivan burst into flames after the driver lost control and crossed the median on Highway 10, striking the tractor-trailer.
Linetsky, of Hampstead, was a rising star in the acting industry and a friend of Thor Bishopric, the national president of the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists, or ACTRA.
Bishopric worked with Linetsky on several productions and said he was shocked to learn of her death.
But even more shocking was the fact that Bishopric was stuck in traffic on Highway 10 Monday morning and passed the accident, not knowing that his friend was involved.
Police said they don't know why the minivan jumped the median and collided with the truck.
