Valerie Poulin Collins, suspect in newborn's abduction, breaks down in court
Trois-Rivières hospital will update security measures in response to baby's abduction
The young woman accused of abducting a newborn from a Trois-Rivières hospital burst into tears in court Wednesday morning.
ValériePoulin Collins appeared in court to hear the date of her bail hearing, which was set for July 7 and 8.
After spotting her mother and two sisters in the courtroom, Poulin Collins broke down.
The 21-year-old is charged with abduction and kidnapping.
She is accused of taking a day-old baby from the maternity ward at the Centre hospitalier régional de Trois-Rivières on May 26.
The newborn was found, thanks to social media, about three hours after she was reported missing.
The Trois-Rivières hospital announced earlier this week that it would be adding new safety measures in response to the incident.
The measures include updated video surveillance and electronic bracelets for all newborns.
