Two women are in serious condition after they were hit by a car while standing on the side of a Laurentians highway at around 6 p.m. Thursday.

One woman slammed into a stalled pickup truck towing a trailer on the side of Highway 329, and the other stopped to help her, said Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Audrey-Anne Bilodeau.

"It’s a good samaritan who stops to help to rescue a lady in the car and probably when they were outside, they were hit by another car," she said.

Bilodeau said the driver who hit the women was likely blinded by the sun.

Quebec’s move-over law only applies to emergency vehicles, but Bilodeau said drivers should move over to the next lane when there’s a stalled car by the side of the road.
