Two pedestrians are dead after they were hit by a car this afternoon in Montreal's east end.

The man, 37, and woman, 51, were waiting for the bus when they were struck just after 3 p.m. on Sherbrooke Street East, at the intersection of Dickson Street.

Two police officers witnessed the accident. They saw one car hit another, and then hit the two people on foot. The impact propelled the pedestrians several meters.

Police say they believe the driver, a 48-year-old man, was speeding.

He is in hospital with minor injuries, where investigators are meeting with him.
