Turcot ramp closures set for Monday
CBC traffic reporter Jennifer Allen has detour suggestions
Two Turcot Interchange off-ramps from Highway 15 North to the Ville-Marie Expressway and Highway 20 West will be closed Monday for the next two months, a move that could send thousands of drivers detouring through the Côte-des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough on a daily basis.
Transports Quebec is recommending that drivers coming from the south on Highway 15 use the Côte Saint-Luc exit, turn around and get back on the southbound Décarie and take those exits for the Ville-Marie Expressway and Highway 20.
It’s estimated that such a detour could take as much as two hours during rush hour and see thousands of cars snaking their way through the borough.
More than 20,000 cars use the affected ramps on a daily basis, and 2,100 cars per hour use them during morning rush hour.
Russell Copeman, the borough mayor for Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, told CBC News last week that Transports Québec’s plan for the closure makes no sense.
"To suggest to motorists without any other alternative that they should, if they want to go to downtown Montreal, come to the corner of Décarie and Côte Saint-Luc, is mind boggling to me," he said.
Transports Quebec announced the closures for March 31 via press release on March 20, a move that earned the ire of Copeman and other city officials
