Former Liberal cabinet minister Tony Tomassi was arrested Friday as part of an undercover Montreal police operation targeting prostitution.

Tomassi, who was minister of families between 2008 and 2010, was among six people rounded up during a sting operation, police said.

The operation involved a police officer posing as a prostitute.

Police said the suspects arrested Friday all face solicitation charges. They were released on a promise to appear, and are due in municipal court in February.

Then premier Jean Charest kicked Tomassi out of the Liberal caucus in 2010, when it was revealed he was using a credit card belonging to a private security firm.

In 2014, Tomassi pleaded guilty to fraud against the government in connection with the matter.
