Montreal police spent the night negotiating with a group of six young offenders who barricaded themselves inside a youth detention centre in Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles.
According to Montreal police Const. Simon Delorme, the incident started at about 5:15 p.m. It went on for several hours before the six teens surrendered peacefully.
“Several young offenders barricaded themselves with makeshift weapons," Delorme said.
He said police are in the middle of negotiations and no injuries have been reported so far.
"There is no danger for residents in the neighbourhood," Delorme said.
The detention centre houses approximately 140 youths between the ages of 14 and 17.
No hostages were reported. It's still unclear whether charges will be laid.
