Syrian-born Hala Maatouk said she had to do something to help family and friends caught in the violent conflict back home.
Maatouk, who is the president of A Heart For Syria, is organizing the shipment of some much-needed supplies to Syrian refugees.
A group of about a dozen people gathered on Friday to pack a 12-metre container full of wheelchairs, crutches, medications, school supplies and even toys for children displaced by the violence in Syria.
That shipment is now on it's way to Turkey, where many refugees have set up camp.
An organization called Orient for Human Relief will then distribute the goods to people in need.
