A harrowing video was entered into evidence yesterday at the Rouyn-Noranda courthouse in the trial of 18-year-old Sabrina Éthier.

Last April 28, Éthier was driving and lost control of her car, causing it to flip over.

Three of her friends were in the car with her.

The one sitting in the front passenger seat filmed a video of Éthier driving 149km/h in a 70km/h zone.

The minute-and-a-half-long video shows Éthier speeding up after turning a corner onto an undivided highway.

In the video, the sound of the car accelerating can be heard.

As a car travelling in the opposite direction moves closer, Éthier’s car swerves and rolls over, causing the airbags to deploy.

She can be heard repeatedly crying, “I’m sorry, girls. I want to die. I was trying to impress you.”

One of the passengers tried to console Éthier. Another said she had pieces of glass in her eye.

There were no fatalities in the accident, but all four people in the car were injured.

Some of them still suffer from pain related to the crash.

The prosecution asked for a 15-18 month jail sentence for Éthier, who pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

The defence proposed 90 non-consecutive days of detention, two years' probation and 200 hours of community service.

The defence lawyer also highlighted Éthier’s desire to become an anti-speeding advocate.

Éthier will be sentenced July 19.
