Tonight marks the 10th anniversary of Nuit Blanche, a city-wide series of activities that go into the wee hours of the morning.
Hundreds of museums, galleries and venues around Montreal are opening their doors to the public for free.
Over 300,000 people took in the sights at last year’s Nuit Blanche, and coordinator Josiane Lapointe said they’re expecting about the same number this year, if not more, on account of the warm weather.
Comedy, dance, art and photography exhibitions, musical performances and more are on schedule for tonight.
Some highlights include Art Souterrain, a collection of exhibitions in the underground city and in Montreal’s metro system.
The Biodome, like most of the city’s major museums, will also be free tonight.
The Montreal metro will be open all night, and STM users can purchase a $4 unlimited evening pass for rides between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Tonight also marks the last night of performances at the Montreal en Lumière festival, featuring singer David Usher and fireworks at the Quartier des spectacles near Place-des-Arts.
The complete programming is available on the Montreal en Lumière/Nuit Blanche website.
Spring break around town
This coming week is spring break for many of Montreal’s elementary and high school students, and with it comes opportunities in many pockets of the city to keep the kids busy.
Outside of borough-organized activities, Montreal families can enjoy the great outdoors at the Old Port by snowshoeing, sledding, ice skating or ice fishing.
For those who appreciate the great indoors more, the Montreal Science Centre has over 30 activities planned alongside its overarching exhibit, “Musik: From Sound to Emotion.”
