Police say poor weather conditions forced them to suspend search efforts for a missing man in the Gaspé provincial park (CBC)
Poor weather has stalled the Quebec provincial police's endeavours as they search for a missing skier in the Gaspé provincial park.
The rescue operation was suspended Wednesday afternoon and overnight when police determined the harsh conditions had created a risky environment for search crews.
The Sûreté du Québec briefly resumed the operation this morning before stopping the search because of poor weather conditions.
Environment Canada is predicting 15 to 25 centimetres of snow in the Gaspé region.
Bertrand Marcotte, 36, has not been seen since Sunday evening.
Marcotte, who is from the Quebec City area, was on a skiing and hiking trip with friends in the Chic Choc mountains, but decided to go off on his own.
About one and a half metres of snow fell on some parts of the mountains overnight on Sunday and into Monday.
Earlier this week, avalanche technician Jean-Raphael Lemieux said the heavy snowfall has contributed to an increased avalanche risk.
