One man is dead after firefighters pulled him from a burning bungalow on 5th Avenue on L'Île Bizard, just off Montreal's West Island.
The Montreal Fire Department's operations chief, Michel Bourgeois, said firefighters were called to the scene shortly before 7 p.m.
When they arrived, the house was in flames.
Bourgeois said they found one man inside, unconscious. Attempts to resuscitate him failed.
Bourgeois could not confirm the man's identity or age. Urgences-Santé told the CBC reporter on the scene, Raffy Boudjikanian, that the man was in his late 40s or early 50s.
The fire was put out quickly, however the house is a write-off.
Fire officials estimate the damage at $200,000.
Montreal police have taken over the investigation of the occupant's death.
