Montreal city councillor Marvin Rotrand says the new political party will aim to stop the bickering at city hall. (CBC)
Montreal city councillor Marvin Rotrand announced today he will be the interim leader of a new political party at Montreal's city hall.
Rotrand said he hopes the party will help clean up city politics and stop the bickering.
According to Rotrand, the new party plans to break away from the east-west divide.
The name of the party has not yet been released to the public.
Rotrand said the party is still in the early stages of forming and he said he expects the party will be fully developed in the next few months.
"We're going to try to get people together on municipal issues," he said.
Rotrand said he will serve as the interim leader of the party until it is registered with Elections Quebec.
Mayor Michael Applebaum said he is not associated with the party in any way.
