Transport Québec is urging drivers to be cautious when heading out on the roads today.

Most highways are partly or completely snow-covered, and Transport Québec spokesman Mario St-Pierre said after Friday's frigid temperatures, roads could also be slippery.

"Motorists should be very aware that there might be some black ice underneath the snow," said St-Pierre. "We recommend people to slow down and leave some space between [them] and the car that's ahead."

St-Pierre said most highways near major cities have been ploughed, but roads that remain snow-covered include Highway 20 around Lotbinière, Highway 40 east of Berthierville, Highway 117 north of Ste-Agathe in the Laurentians and Highway 10 in the Richelieu Valley south of Montreal.

St-Pierre said Highway 50 through the lower Laurentians and Gatineau is also snow-covered, as are most secondary roads throughout the province.

Environment Canada has issued winter storm warnings for several regions of Quebec, including the Laurentians, the Mauricie region, Quebec City, Lac Saint-Jean and the Saguenay region.

These regions could see up to 30 centimetres of snow by tomorrow morning.
