Emergency crews shut down a two-block stretch of Notre Dame Street in St-Henri for a gas leak.

A witness told CBC he saw a city snow-clearing vehicle hit the gas line as it drove along a sidewalk near the intersection of Notre Dame and Beaudoin streets earlier this morning.

Firefighters and police were on the scene and evacuated a dozen residential and commercial buildings.

Emergency vehicles were blocking Notre-Dame Street between Ste-Marguerite Street and Sir George-Étienne Cartier Square.
