As per usual, the majority of businesses and stores in Quebec will be closed on Christmas Day and will operate on reduced hours for some of the holiday season.

Quebec labour laws indicate business owners will not be able to open their doors until 1 p.m. on Dec. 26.

SAQ liquor stores will reopen on Boxing Day. Stores will close again at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and will be entirely closed on Jan. 1.

People who wish to buy last-minute groceries for holiday feasts will have to look around for stores that are smaller than 375 square feet. Certain corner stores will also be opened, at the owners' discretion.

Some supermarkets may operate on reduced hours on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 and will be closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day.

Pharmacies, restaurants and gas stations are considered essential services and will remain open throughout the holidays.

Those who wish to entertain themselves at the arena, at public pools or libraries should consult with their boroughs or visit ville.montreal.qc.ca for hours of operation.

It is important to note that the metro will also be running every 12 minutes on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 on the green line. The other lines will run at 10-minute intervals. For more information on bus routes, people are urged to visit stm.info.

The public transit system in Laval will operate on its Sunday schedule on Christmas and New Years Day.

Banks, post offices and government offices will reopen on Dec. 27.
