Accused wouldn't co-operate with doctor in psychiatric evaluation

A Montreal court will wait until the new year to determine if the accused in the Quebec election night shooting will be deemed fit to stand trial.
The psychiatric evaluation for Richard Henry Bain was delayed after the accused refused to co-operate with a female doctor at Montreal's Pinel Institute who addressed him in French, court heard.
Another doctor will be sent to evaluate him.
The results of that evaluation will help the court determine if Bain is fit to stand trial.
It was ordered by the court 10 days ago after a routine appearance was interrupted by an outburst from the accused.
Prompted by questions from his legal aid lawyer, Bain told the court that he was a "Christian soldier" and that Canadians won't surrender in the fight against "evil separatists."
Bain faces 16 charges in connection with the shooting that killed technician Denis Blanchette and seriously injured his colleague.
Bain's court-appointed lawyer, Elfriede Duclervil, says it has been next to impossible to build a successful defence for her client since he isn't able to answer her questions rationally.
He has been in custody since his arrest at the scene of the shooting on Sept. 5.
