Quebec coroner, Ottawa police probe Gatineau woman's death

The Quebec coroner and Ottawa police are investigating after a Gatineau woman died after she was hurt while riding in a van designed to transport people with mobility difficulties.
On Oct. 31 at 4:45 p.m., the 86-year-old woman was riding in a Chevrolet Express operated by TSMO Transport of Gatineau. The vehicle was travelling north on King Edward Avenue near the MacDonald Cartier Bridge.
The van made a sudden stop to avoid another vehicle and the woman slid off her wheelchair and was injured. Emergency services were not requested because she never lost consciousness and was talking to the other people in the vehicle, Ottawa police said.
She was delivered to her home in Gatineau but was later admitted to Gatineau hospital. She died of her injuries the following day.
The Quebec coroner is investigating and Ottawa police have opened a parallel investigation because the incident happened in Ontario. Ottawa police said the incident wasn't reported until Nov. 22.
The name of the woman has not been released.
