Applebaum considers leaving Union Montréal

The former chair of Montreal's executive committee said he may consider leaving the governing Union Montréal party.
The city councillor for Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Michael Applebaum said he would think of alternatives to Union Montréal.
"I will take a look at what is the best for the population that I serve," he said. Applebaum said he would consider being part of a coalition at city council led by an independent mayor.
Richard Deschamps was chosen over Applebaum as leader of Union Montréal following Gérald Tremblay's resignation as mayor last week.
Applebaum resigned from his position on Nov. 9, stating he was stepping down from his role as chair of the city's executive committee after finding an internal working document that had been suppressed by the committee.
City council met Monday afternoon to begin the process of replacing Tremblay.
The interim mayor, who will sit until the municipal election scheduled for next November, will be chosen on Friday.
