Over 10,000 cubic meters of man-made snow will soon cover the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City as it prepares to host the Sprint World Cup for cross-country skiing.
It will be the first time the International Ski Federation race is hosted in Quebec, drawing 150 of the world's fastest cross-country skiers to the province’s capital.
Quebec company Gestev is organizing the World Cup Sprint.
Technical director Sylvain Jean called the event “a huge win” for Quebec City.
Jean said he would have preferred to organize the race for mid-February, when there is plenty of real snow available.
But the ski federation sets the competition dates, not him.
Competitor Alex Harvey is looking forward to the event. He was the first Canadian to win the gold medal for the World Championships.
“It’s going to be a fun event, that’s for sure. I can’t wait to compete in front of my home crowd,” he said.
The event will run from Dec. 7 to 9.
