Cyclists want safe zones near MUHC site

Cyclists are demanding safe zones around Montreal's Metro Vendôme area in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighbourhood. They say the construction around the new McGill University Health Centre is impacting their safety.
Dozens of cyclists took to the streets in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighbourhood in Montreal on Tuesday afternoon during rush hour.
A part of the bike path near De Maisonneuve Boulevard is blocked off due to work being done on the new MUHC, and cyclists now have to cross the bustling Décarie Boulevard.
Rachel Michie, a member of the NDG Cyclist and Pedestrian Association, said "we'd like to at least [see] concrete dividers separating the cyclists from the cars and buses. Those are our goals right now."
The association also fears the hospital will flood nearby streets with traffic and make travelling even harder.
Cyclists want a bridge reserved for pedestrians and cyclists over Décarie.
Members of the association also said they would like to see a second exit nearby Vendôme metro to allow people to walk from the station to the hospital.
