A $5,000 reward is now being offered to anyone who can lead police to a suspect in a year-old shooting that left a 48-year-old man dead in Lachine.

Gombek Yai Gombek's lifeless body was found in a parking lot at the corner of Ivan Franko Street and 33rd Avenue on Sept. 12, 2011.

He was pronounced dead in hospital a short time later.

Montreal police believe that an early-morning argument may have preceded the fatal shooting in the same parking lot. It was the city's 26th homicide of 2011.

But homicide detectives still don't know what Gombek was doing in the area at four in the morning. Police said he worked in Quebec's Abitibi region and stayed in Montreal occasionally, though not in Lachine.

"It's particular because the victim wasn't coming from the area," police spokesperson Const. Daniel Fortier said. "We don't have any clues for the moment."

Gombek had no police record and, as far as investigators can tell, no enemies.

Investigators set up a command post at the intersection Wednesday until 2 p.m. in hopes of finding additional witnesses and information on the shooting.

The Sun Youth community organization is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who provides information leading to an arrest and conviction.
