A man is in critical but stable condition after he was stabbed several times in downtown Montreal on Monday night.
Police say a fight broke out around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of City Councillors Street and Sainte-Catherine Street.
Montreal police spokesman Jean-Pierre Brabant said police are still looking for the suspect.
"And at a certain point during the altercation, the victim decided to run away from the scene but was caught by the suspect and then was assaulted with an edged weapon," said Brabant.
The spokesman said police are looking for a black man who ran away in an unknown direction.
The two men likely knew each other and the victim was known to police, the spokesman said.
