François Legault, chief of the Coalition Avenir Québec(CAQ) party, introduced two new candidates on Tuesday for the provincial election, expected this summer.

Gaétan Barrette, the former president of the Quebec Federation of Medical Specialists, will be running in the Terrebonne riding, on Montreal's north shore.

"I've been working or practicing in the healthcare system since the age of 15," said Barrette. "I strongly believe that at this time, things have to be reformed, implemented and saved . But something has to happen in order for each and every one of us to have access to family physicians and to reduce wait times. You cannot do that if you're the president of a health federation. You can only do that if you're minister," said Barrette.

Barrette said he chose the CAQ because it had better standing in comparison to the provincial Liberal party, which he said was "too corrupt" and the Parti Québecois, which would mean "asking citizens to take a risk."

Claire Samson, the former president of the Quebec Film and Television Production Association, is offering her candidacy for the Iberville riding, about 30 kilometres south-east of Montreal.

"Culture and health care are key sectors for our team. These two domains are priorities in our mission to improve Quebec," Legault said.
