Drummondville plans to make vegetable gardens, like this one, illegal everywhere in the city this Fall. (CBC)A Drummondville couple, fighting to keep their front lawn vegetable garden, got a reprieve Monday.
The city ordered Michel Beauchamp and his wife, Josée Landry, to dig up part of their garden, citing a city bylaw.
The bylaw says that front lawns in the couple's St-Charles-de-Drummond neighbourhood must be 30 per cent grass.
Last week, the couple was told they would have five days to comply, or they would face fines of between $100 and $300 per day.
The city decided to suspend the notice, giving the couple until Sept. 1 to uproot some of their vegetables.
A spokesperson for the city said its council will hold a meeting on August 13 to discuss the case.
This fall, Drummondville plans to make it illegal to grow vegetables on front lawns anywhere in the city.
