Montreal police have confirmed the discovery of what appear to be human remains in Montreal's Parc Angrignon.

Montreal police spokesperson Anie Lemieux said the remains were found near a lake in the park after investigators received a tip late this afternoon, but will not confirm they are human until a more detailed analysis.

The analysis will be performed over the next few days, after which police will be able to say whether the discovery is related to the Luka Rocco Magnotta case.

The finding comes weeks after human body parts were mailed to the Ottawa headquarters of the federal Conservative and Liberal parties on May 29. A human torso was also discovered in Montreal. Police later identified the victim as Jun Lin, an international student at Concordia University. Magnotta was captured at an internet café in Berlin.

The 29-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder, among other offences.
