A man is dead and a youth injured after a silo collapsed on a farm west of Joliette Thursday afternoon.

A 45-year-old farmer was working on his tractor on the Saint-Liguori property when the structure, half filled with grain, fell on him.

The man was crushed and a 17-year-old male was injured, according to Quebec provincial police.

The cause of the collapse wasn't immediately known.

Police and the provincial workplace safety board are investigating.
