A Brossard, Que. man says his ex-wife abducted their 8-year-old daughter and took her to Lebanon.
Mitch Yunes has full custody of his daughter Lina, and the RCMP have issued an arrest warrant for the girl's mother, Rania El Wahidy.
Yunes said he hasn't seen his daughter since February, when he agreed to let El Wahidy take their daughter to Lebanon for a wedding.
He said they were supposed to be gone for about a week, but he knew something was wrong when he later tried to find them at his former wife's Montreal apartment.
"I looked through the window and the apartment was totally empty," said Yunes.
A Quebec judge has since granted him full custody of Lina.
Still, he said Canadian authorities are not doing enough to help him, and if he has to, he will bring Lina back to Canada himself.
"I will go down and even if I have to pay people I will pay people to retrieve the child. I will do whatever it takes because at this point, I have found that our system is so weak and poor and they do nothing," said Yunes.
Legal hurdles
Lina Yunes is 8 years old. (CBC/Mitch Yunes)Yunes said his daughter is living with Wahidy and her new husband in Saida, Lebanon, which is south of Beirut.
Pina Arcamone from the Missing Childrens' Network said so far, Yunis is doing the right thing by using legal channels to get his daughter back.
But she said the case is complicated because Lebanon has not signed the Hague Convention.
"Lebanon does not recognize the custody order that has been issued by Canada," said Arcamone.
