McGill University placed 19th overall in the QS World University Rankings. (CBC)McGill tops all other Canadian Universities in the quality of education it provides and is 19th best in the world, according to the latest QS World University Rankings.
The ranking marks the seventh straight time the Montreal school has placed in the top 25 overall and listed in the top 35 schools in arts and humanities, engineering and technology, life sciences and medicine, natural sciences and social sciences and management. The next Canadian university on the best overall list is the University of Toronto, in 29th spot.
Heather Munroe-Blum, the principal and vice-chancellor of McGill, called the ranking a terrific result that reflects the strengths, talents and dedicated efforts of faculty, students, staff and alumni.
Founded in 1821, McGill attracts students from more than 150 countries, almost half of whom claim a first language other than English.
QS World University Rankings was launched in 2004, and for 2010, produced its ratings in association with partners including US News & World Report and Scopus, the Elsevier database.
The rankings have gained broad recognition among students, academics and researchers around the world.
