A 19-year-old woman died early Monday morning after being hit by a car in the parking lot of a bar in Sainte-Foy, near Quebec City.

The driver of the car left the scene, but was arrested by police shortly after.

He is expected to face charges of impaired driving causing death and hit-and-run, and will be formally charged by video-conference on Monday.

The accident happened around 3:20 a.m. in a parking lot of the bar La P'tite Grenouille on Galvani street, in Sainte-Foy.

Initial information from Quebec City Police said the victim was walking with a friend who got a call and stepped away for a few minutes. When she got back, she found the victim unconscious on the ground.

The girl was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Witnesses saw the occupants of the vehicle that hit the teenager leave the scene on foot.

The driver, a 20-year-old man who lives in Victoriaville, Que., was arrested after he failed an alcohol test which showed he had a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit.

The two other people in the car were interrogated by police in the course of the investigation.
