Laval police say they have found the car involved in a hit-and-run accident that left a 16-year-old girl in critical condition in hospital Friday afternoon in the city's Chomedy district.

The teen was struck by the white Buick Regal as she was crossing Lévesque Boulevard near 80th Avenue at around 1 p.m., police said.

The car was found in the parking lot of a condominium development in the d'Auteuil area by a police officer on patrol.

The car had damage that matched the kind of damage that would be sustained in a hit and run, said Laval Police Sgt. François Dumais.

Police are trying to track down the owner of the car, which had had its licence plate removed.

The girl, who is a student at Saint-Maxime High School, located about two blocks away from the scene of the accident, was heading back to school following her lunch break.

Police say they believe the girl had stepped out from behind a truck when she was struck by the oncoming car.

"Witnesses tell us that the car was driving very, very fast and the victim was crossing between two intersections," said Dumais. "The car, after the impact, didn't stop. He continued his way in the west direction on Lévesque Boulevard."

Dumais said witnesses saw a male driver behind the wheel, who appeared to be alone in the car.

The force of the impact knocked the girl toward an oncoming public transit bus, which also hit her, said Dumais.
