Quebec figure skater Joannie Rochette has ranked as high as 39th on the Time magazine online poll of the world's most influential people. (Gerry Broome/Associated Press)Quebec figure skater Joannie Rochette has made Time magazine's poll of the 100 most influential people of 2010.
In the continuing online poll, the 24-year-old has been ranked as high as 39th — ahead of golf champion Tiger Woods, former American president Bill Clinton and TV talk show host Oprah Winfrey.
Rochette, from Ile-Dupas, Que., earned admirers around the world after winning bronze at this year's Vancouver Olympic Games, just days after the death of her mother.
She has so far received nearly 4,000 votes, while Lady Gaga currently sits atop the list with almost 500,000 votes.
Poll results are always changing as votes continue to be cast.
The poll is a precursor to the seventh annual Time 100 issue — released in May — which profiles the most influential people in the areas of government, science, technology and the arts.
Rochette is currently skating in the Stars on Ice tour in the United States.
