Police in the Dominican Republic are searching for three men who they believe stabbed a Quebec woman to death inside her home.
A national district police chief identified the victim as Louise Gaudreault, 54.
The Montreal Gazette said she originally came from Lac St. Jean, Que., and had been living in the Dominican for 25 years. El Nuevo Diario, a Dominican newspaper, said she had been living in the northern town of Gaspar Hernández for more than five years.
Neighbours found her body Thursday in the bathroom of her home.
Gaudreault was stabbed five times, Dominican police officials said. Scissors and fabric found by her body are being analyzed.
Police said one suspect being sought is Haitian but declined to say more.
Canadian Foreign Affairs officials said Sunday they were aware of an incident in the Dominican Republic that involved a Canadian citizen but refused to give further details.
This is the second death of a Quebecer in the country in recent months.
Jean Gagné, 41, from Quebec City, was shot and killed by intruders in a villa in the resort town of Sosua, east of Puerto Plata last New Year’s Eve.
