Grafftey died at the Royal Victoria Hospital Thursday. He was 81.
Grafftey served the Brome-Missisquoi riding as a Tory for 18 years.
He was first elected to the House of Commons in 1958, eventually losing his seat during the wave of support for Pierre Trudeau in 1968, and again in 1980, when he feuded with then Tory party leader Joe Clark.
He ran unsuccessfully in 2000.
In 2002, he was one of the first to call for Clark's resignation, eventually running as a candidate in the 2003 Tory leadership contest.
He withdrew from the race that May for medical reasons.
Throughout his career Grafftey was affectionately known as "the Gnome from Brome" for his short stature and his outspoken nature, often arguing with members of his own party.
Grafftey is survived by his three children, Arthur Heward, Clement Tae Yong and Leah Yoon Hee. His marriage to Alida Grace Visser ended in divorce.
