The search for two missing Laval friends who vanished after a night on the town last week has moved to a busy bridge that links the suburban city to Montreal.
Vincent Lamoureux, 20, is a CÉGEP student in Laval.
(Montreal Police)Vincent Lamoureux, 20, and Hugo Pereira, 22, were last seen the night of Feb. 2 at the Au Diable Vert on St. Denis Street, north of Mont-Royal Avenue.
Police officers combed the Viau bridge on Tuesday afternoon, after debris from a car possibly matching a vehicle registered to Lamoureux was found on the surface.
Officers were focusing on the north side of the span. Police divers joined the operation later Tuesday to scour the bottom of the Rivière-des-Prairies.
On Tuesday morning, police said they had found pieces of a black Acura and tire track marks near the bridge. Lamoureux and Pereira were driving an Acura the night they disappeared.
Divers will resume the search Wednesday morning.
Lamoureux and Pereira spent last Tuesday night at a popular Plateau nightclub. Police confirmed the two men exchanged text messages late in the night before disappearing.
Until now, investigators haven't been able to track Lamoureux's car, even though the vehicle has a GPS system. No signal has been detected. Calls to the young men's cellphones have gone unanswered.
Family members and friends are frantic, said Lamoureux's uncle, Réal Leboeuf.
Hugo Pereira, 22, is a firefighter and student at the University of Montreal. (Montreal police)"Waiting like this, you just don't know, every time the phone rings, whether it's the police or Vincent," he said in an interview in French. "It's been really hard on the family."
A search team, including police and volunteers, scoured the city over the weekend, looking for any signs of the men or their car.
"It's a lot easier to locate a car than two people in a city like Montreal," police Const. Daniel Lacoursière said during the weekend search. "So, if we can locate the car, it's going to give us a good lead to find the two men."
Police have asked anyone with information to call them at 514-280-3367.
Lamoureux, a CÉGEP student in Laval, is five feet eight inches tall and160 pounds, with short brown hair and blue eyes. He was wearing jeans, a green and grey V-neck sweater, and a black hooded jacket.
Pereira, who is a firefighter and a student at the University of Montreal, is five nine inches tall and 180 pounds, with short brown hair, brown eyes and a piercing in his left ear. He was wearing blue jeans, a white vest with zipper and a black coat.
Lamoureux and Pereira live together with a third roommate in Laval.
