Police said the man, believed to be in his 60s, was found lying in the snow outside an apartment building on Grand Boulevard just before midnight.

Authorities arrested four men and two women inside the building.

Witnesses told Canadian Press that the victim was beaten up after he complained about noise.

"It's possible that the victim and suspects know each other," said Montreal Police Const. Anie Lemieux.

Lemieux confirmed the victim was known to police.

Neighbour Bablo Zaman has lived in the area for three years, but said it is too dangerous to stay any longer.

"As a human being they should have respect for the older people," Zaman said. "[That’s] really scary …. I'm planning to move from here that’s for sure."

Police said investigators would meet with the victim before deciding what charges the suspects could face.
