Dalhousie Street was rippling with small waves Thursday night. (CBC)The St. Lawrence River overflowed its banks in Quebec City Thursday night, washing over a street and leaving motorists stranded.

Thursday's wind gusts generated high waves in the river that spilled onto Dalhousie Street, near the Old Port in the Petit Champlain tourist area.

The street was submerged, but Coast Guard officials say damage was minimal and the water quickly receded.
