CBC's French-language television network will cap off 2009 without its traditional year-endBye Bye program, but a network official said the decision has nothing to do with last year's controversy.

Instead, this year a special edition of the network's popular show Tout le monde en parle will be the highlight of the evening, along with a concert by the musical group Mes Aïeux, Louise Lantagne, Radio-Canada's director of French television, said Monday

The 2008 edition of Bye Bye' produced by television personality Véronique Cloutier and her husband, Louis Morissette, contained skits some Quebecers said were racist and in extremely bad taste.

The Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission received more than 170 complaints.

In a ruling last month, the CRTC found that Radio-Canada had breached provisions of the television broadcasting regulations and a condition of licence when it broadcasted the program. It said the network should issue an apology to its viewers.
